We started the day with breakfast at the café below her apartment, I wish back home there were little individually owned cafes like that, where you know the owners and can just pass by on your way out the door without having to navigate rush hour traffic.

After breakfast we went to the market, a three story, indoor, fruit and vegetable, seafood and meat market mega mall. On the bottom were stalls with the ladies selling fish and shrimp and other unique things like sea urchin which I wanted to try in a restaurant but it was 18 Euros.  I learned that the word for Flounder is rodaballo. Walking past plastic bins of percebes reminded me of the man I talked to near the tower, him having just climbed up off of the rocks, with a 25 lb sack of them which sell for about 20-30 Euros per kilo (10-15/lb) and that’s wholesale buying as a customer is around 40-50 euros per kilo, but it is a really dangerous job collecting them.

We just got a few things and decided to head back to put away the stuff we bought. After a little while we went back out to find a small house/ museum which is where Picasso stayed when he was living in Coruna around the age of 10. This period is not too often mentioned in the life of Picasso so I thought it would be interesting to see the works from that period although they were only reproductions.

The museum was a few blocks from Leandra’s house but we arrived a few minutes late and they had closed so we just walked around the old city for a bit but decided to call it quits; the rain and wind are nearly intolerable unless you have a good umbrella.

For diner we went out looking for some pulpo gallego (Galician style octopus). Leandra ordered nevajas, or Razor clams (jackknife clams) which are long slender clams that are almost rectangular. Never had I seen such a clam but they were amazing. The pulpo was good but I can only eat it in small quantities since the texture gets to me after too much, especially the slimy part that is sometimes around the outside.
